There is currently a major problem with all car hire companies across Europe as the extra cars for the summer months have not been supplied as agreed by the manufacturers.

We have suspended taking new bookings OFFLINE as there are no cars available at short notice here at all. It unlikely that any more will become available during the next 6 weeks and there is a real shortage. We have a lot of people trying to book car hire or arrange transfers with us at the last minute as their car hire has been cancelled – sometimes not until they arrive at the airport. Locally and on line prices are rising all the time and many on line firms will currently take your money and still not supply.So you could have major problems if you try to book.

Our online service will not take your money if there is no availability .

There is a huge shortage & the situation locally is very volatile and fluctuates from day to day.

We also advise that under Portuguese law you never have a contract with a car hire company until you actually sign a hard copy of a contract and you have to be physically here in Portugal to do that – this usually protects the hire companies from hiring to people with bad driving records etc, but in this situation gives you no come back if they don’t supply a car as agreed. This is even worse if the booking is paid in advance . We have heard of people booking and paying for cars that cannot be supplied and all they are entitled to in that situation is a refund of any fees paid and nothing else.

I am sorry that I cannot be more reassuring myself but the situation is out of our control and as booking agents we cannot in all honesty 100% guarantee availability and nor can anyone else – whatever they tell you
