Portugal's climate is temperate, therefore you are likely to find good weather in most places with summer temperatures reaching into the 30’s, while in winter the temperatures rarely dropping below 10 degrees in most parts. Alto Douro and the Alentejo do have uncomfortably hot summers and droughts are common. Summer (April – October) is a hot, busy season in most parts of the country, though somewhat less in the north. In the south, summers are warm with very little rain except in early spring and autumn. High summer temperatures are moderated by a permanent breeze in Estoril from July to August. During winter (November – March), the north receives plenty of rain and temperatures can be chilly. Snowfall is common in the mountains, particularly in the Serra da Estrela range. The northwest has mild winters with high levels of rainfall and fairly short summers. The northeast has longer winters and hot summers. The ski season lasts from January to March but February tends to be the best.
